Next Club meeting: Thursday 15th December

The next Club meeting will be held on Thursday 15th December at the Royal British Legion, Newbury branch from 7pm. As usual we will be holding our annual Club model competition and all members are invited to bring along their builds from the year and enter them for a chance to win one of the three Club trophies and other prizes. We will also be displaying the results of of 2011 ‘Gulf War’ themed build.

Competition success at Scale ModelWorld 2011

Congratulations to Club Member Mal Linton-Auteis who collected a ‘Commended’ certificate for his F-16I Sufa in Class 12 at the IPMS Scale ModelWorld 2011 model competition. This is the 1/48 scale Kinetic kit painted in Tamiya and Vallejo paints, finished with Flory Models wash. Have a look at Mal’s model below.

December’s Club meeting update and photos

We had a great turn out for December’s Club meeting and annual competition despite the ice and snow. As well as a number of family members we also welcomed guests from the West Berks Scale Model Club. NSMC provided drinks and seasonal snacks to accompany the regular meeting activities and the involved discussions that followed.

Once we had wrapped up the formal Club agenda including quick preview of shows in first couple of months of 2011, Adrian and Brian from the West Berks Scale Model Club had the unenviable task of trying to judge the entries in the competition. There was an excellent selection of aircraft, armour and figures on display, including a number of builds finished on the very day. After much deliberation Adrian and Brian selected the winners and the results of the annual competition were as follows:

1st Place, The Bryan Philpott Memorial Trophy: Ian Sheppard
2nd Place, Chris Griffith Trophy: Ian Reece
3rd Place, Tony Woollett Trophy: Dave Atkinson

A well deserved congratulations to all the winners, and thanks once again to Adrian and Brian their difficult judging job.

December Club meeting tonight!

Just a quick reminder it is December’s Club meeting tonight from 7pm at the Royal British Legion, Newbury branch (Pelican Lane, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 1NP). This month’s meeting is our Christmas meeting and the Club will be providing drinks and seasonal snacks to everyone who comes along. It is also the Club’s annual competition with several trophies and prizes up for grabs.

Please bear in mind that there is a dress code enforced within the Royal British Legion organisation, and Newbury Scale Model Club asks all of its members and visitors to comply with this rule. Casual dress is OK, however track suits, lounging suits and shorts are not allowed.

Competition success at Scale Modelworld 2010

Congratulations to Jamie Bartlett for his success at Scale Modelworld 2010. Jamie won a Silver Medal in the Junior figure painting competition with an excellent Gandalf and Bilbo Baggins vignette. Full details will be posted in the show report, due in the next couple of days.

Competition success at Abingdon 2010

Congratulations once again to Club member Ian Sheppard for his success in the modelling competition at the IPMS Abingdon 2010 model show this weekend. Ian collected another 1st and 2nd prize in the Class 4 / Military Vehicles group as well as a 3rd prize in the Class 10 / Diorama group.

Competition success at Colours 2010

Congratulations to Club members Ian Sheppard and Daniel Lyford for their success in the Colours 2010 modelling and painting competitions this weekend. Ian walked away with both the 1st and 2nd prize in the Saturday “Military vehicles larger than 1/48 scale” class as well as another 1st and 2nd pair in Sunday’s “Diorama” class. Daniel rounded off the weekend by receiving a 3rd place in Sunday’s Junior figure painting class.

Colours 2010 is the first chance this year that Club members have had to enter their models into competition and once again the quality of Ian and Daniel’s work has shone through. Please join me in congratulating them on their success!
