Next Club meeting: Thursday 15th December

The next Club meeting will be held on Thursday 15th December at the Royal British Legion, Newbury branch from 7pm. As usual we will be holding our annual Club model competition and all members are invited to bring along their builds from the year and enter them for a chance to win one of the three Club trophies and other prizes. We will also be displaying the results of of 2011 ‘Gulf War’ themed build.

The Aircraft Enthusiasts Fair and Model Show today

Today is the Aircraft Enthusiasts Fair and Model Show 2011, held again at the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop, Stockbridge, Hampshire SO20 8DY. Doors open to the public at 10am (and close at 4pm). Entrance to the museum and show is £5 (down from the normal £7 to enter the museum). With the traders and exhibitors arranged around the various museum exhibits there is plenty to see and do… See you there!

Show Report: Scale ModelWorld 2011

As it is November, it must be Scale ModelWorld, the self proclaimed ‘biggest and nest model show in the world’. This year’s show was held on the 12th and 13th November at the Telford International Centre as usual. With over 150 traders and 170 exhibitors spanning 3 large halls SMW really lives up to its billing and is the show to attend for all modellers.

Newbury Scale Model Club headed up on Friday afternoon to get our tables set up ahead of the normal Saturday morning rush. We arrived at 5pm and were pretty much done within 15 minutes which gave us an opportunity to look around the halls and get orientated for the weekend. Most traders were already set up and some were even selling kits! Wonderland Models specifically had some very attractive offers and were very busy for the whole weekend.

After a good curry on the Friday night we were ready to go for the main event on Saturday. We arrived at TIC at about 7.50am on the Saturday morning and parked up without queuing or problems, and were able to get straight into the halls to finish setting up the tables. The venue soon started getting busy as more exhibitors and traders arrived and with general IPMS members being allowed in from 9.

Apart from the queues in the Kit Swap, the day flew by and we all managed to pick up a few bargains, necessary consumables and total impulse purchases from around the halls. All the traders seemed to be busy and all the NewMod 2012 confirmed traders said that they were having a good day. Before we knew it, it was 6pm and time to clear out for the day, tired of feet and lighter of pocket.

Sunday was also a busy day, but there was nowhere near the number of visitors around which made it an ideal day to look around the many Club and SIG stands as well as the competition entries and admire the many exceptional builds on display — have a look at the show photos below, or over in the gallery pages.

Overall the Club enjoyed a great weekend away and we’re already looking forward to (and saving up for!) next year.

Bugle Call 2011 today

November Club meeting tonight!

Just a quick reminder that it is the November Club meeting tonight from 7pm at the Royal British Legion, Newbury branch (Pelican Lane, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 1NP), in the main function room. The focus of tonight’s meeting will be a talk by Roger Day, local historian and author. If you are interested in finding out a little more about NSMC why not pop along and see what we are about?

Please bear in mind that there is a dress code enforced within the Royal British Legion organisation, and Newbury Scale Model Club asks all of its members and visitors to comply with this rule. Casual dress is OK, however track suits, lounging suits and shorts are not allowed.

Competition success at Scale ModelWorld 2011

Congratulations to Club Member Mal Linton-Auteis who collected a ‘Commended’ certificate for his F-16I Sufa in Class 12 at the IPMS Scale ModelWorld 2011 model competition. This is the 1/48 scale Kinetic kit painted in Tamiya and Vallejo paints, finished with Flory Models wash. Have a look at Mal’s model below.

Today is the second and final day of Scale ModelWorld 2011. We had a great day yesterday and there are some sore heads this morning, but we’re looking forward to another great day. Once again doors open to IPMS members from 9 am and to the public at 10. See you there!
