Awaiting show report from one of the Club members who attended. More shortly.
This just in from our Chairman Ian Bartlett.
whats to say really?
Myself, Bill Brignall, John Cooper and Richard Dawes in attendance.
A small show, probably about 6 club displays, no competition, mainly second hand kit and book stalls, no tools, paints or accessories available.
Pleasant atmosphere, friendly people, but a bit quiet really, in terms of visitors. Museum of Army Flying is ok as a model relevant venue, but all a bit quiet. Thanks to the organisers for inviting us.

Firstly NSMC welcome two new members, Ian Reece and David Vaughan. With a healthy sprinkling of regulars turning up as usual much was discussed about forthcoming events. The latest developments on NEWMOD, and our Modeller of the month competition was one by Octobers new member Micheal Yarnold with his very good model of the Tamiya(?) Swordfish. Well done Micheal. Photographs will follow shortly.
The Royal British Legion supplied us with collection boxes for oour events in the future, so hopefully we can repay their generousity with a bit of informal fund raising over the next twelve months.
This weekend we have two shows that we are attending. Middle Wallop Army Air Museum, and Bugle Call in Bath. Our first double booking. (Who would have thought int two years ago?)
With Ian Shumsky not able to attend this month members were asked to fill out the list of models they would like to build for our Group build Diorama. There till seems to be a few holes in the list after the Club meeting but we can work on this next month. The base boards are cut, the carrying case is next, and hopefully next month we can have a go at laying down so detail on the base boards at the Club meeting, (depending on how busy we are.) More on this soon.
A reminder to everyone, if you are working on models, finished on models have problems with models, bring them to the Club night.

Newbury Scale Model Club visits Scale Model World 2009. This is the Clubs second trip north to visit the event.
Club members who made the show included Ian Sheppard, Richard Dawes, Ian Bartlett, Alice Bartlett, past Club member Bill Van Heerden also put in an appearance along with Steve Wright from Sheffield, (Steve, that was a massive effort on your part, so we can only thank you for being so dedicated.) Also I was there trying to keep a low profile as usual. Ian Shumsky tried desperately to be there, but due to work commitments couldn’t get back from Canada with enough time to spare for a visit. (Next year Ian, there’s always next year.)
Many of us bought a few bits and pieces especially for the GROUP BUILD for 2010, I bought a Prieser US pilots, while the kits Bill Brignall had previously ordered from Hannants were picked up, these included a C47 and a few other bits (which we did) Ian Sheppard bought a fuel truck but only afterwards realised it was Russian. (Anyone want a russian 72nd scale fuel truck?)
A video camera was bought so now there is no stopping us now, watch this website for dodgey cam corder footage in the coming weeks.
Just released
Rememberance Sunday was a bit special this year. IPMS recruited the help of the RAF and a bugler to sound in the last post at 11am. What was very moving indeed, was that the whole site came to a complete and utter standstill. Not a single sole moved thoughtout the SILENCE. Thousands of us all paying the mark of respect which our soldiers derserve if nothing else. (Lest we forget). Scale Model World 2009 became very good example of why people should stop for a moment. Someone ought to remind the fans of Celtic Football Club what Rememberance Sunday is all about.
Alice Bartlett picked up a GOLD medal in the Junior competition, well done Alice.
In hindsight, Ian Sheppard should have entered some of his dioramas as our club stand seemed to be constantly inundated with happy snappy photographers all trying to take picks of all his creations. Well perhaps next year, who knows. More on this shortly.

In an attempt to be on the correct side of political correctness and public opinion, Newbury Scale Model Club is currently in the process of getting a number of its members throught the CRB registration process, this is because we want to be publicly seem as being a safe Club for its junior members and to be able to organise future junior events which is where the future of all model clubs and this hobby lies.
This should encourage parents to bring there children along, knowing they will have this extra bit of ‘peace of mind’.

Last night saw a new member at the Club. Michael Yarnold, who lives at Shaw, has been making scale models since he was seven years old. Michael has a passion for sailing ships, modern RAF aircraft, warships and helicopters.
October saw the first ‘Modeller of the Month Competition’, this was won by Rowley Bartlett with his 90mm figure of a 101st airborne paratrooper. No prizes or certificates just yet, but we’ll see how the competition develops over the next few months.
[SinglePic not found]The Club also decided on a new Club theme. There were several notable suggestions including a Battle of Britain ‘Wallace and Grommet’ interpretation. But by overwhelming majority it was decided that we would concentrate on a local theme for display throughout 2010. The Theme for the Group build will be Greenham Common June 5th 1944.
The aim is to have a transportable, 6ft by 2ft diorama of part of the airfield depicting activities leading up to the launch of D Day. We have entrusted the project to Ian Shumsky to come up with the plan for the build, which we are hoping to be on the table for the November meeting. Scale will be 1/72nd, which will allow everyone to contribute something at a very reasonable cost.
As a postscript to this, we may even be able to display this diorama at NEWMOD 2010 as a work in progress. (It’s only a thought.)
