We are delighted to welcome Rod Bennett as the latest member of NSMC. Rod has recently returned to the hobby after a long break and has started by modelling artillery subjects generally in 1/35 scale. We’re looking forward to seeing Rod’s builds at future meetings and sharing his knowledge of the subjects he builds.

September Club meeting tonight!

Just a quick reminder that it is the September Club meeting tonight from 7pm at the Royal British Legion, Newbury branch (Pelican Lane, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 1NP), in the main function room. As well as the usual meeting activities there will be a short demonstration on casting your own model parts. Competition success at Colours

Congratulations to Club Members Kevin Clingham, Ian Sheppard and Mal Linton-Auteis for their wins in the modelling and painting competitions at this year’s Colours show. In the Saturday model competition, Kevin picked up first and second place in Class 2 (single large scale military vehicle), Mal was awarded first place in Class 4 (single large scale aircraft) and Ian collected first place in Class 6 (miscellaneous). In the Sunday painting competition Ian had a clean sweep of first, second and third in Class 6 (diorama). The weekend’s success was completed with Kevin picking up the ‘Best in Show’ award for his impressive Bergepanther.

Today is the second and final day of Newbury & Reading Wargames Society’s Colours show, held at Newbury Racecourse. Yesterday was great fun and we’re looking forward to another entertaining day. Doors open to the public at 10am again… See you there!

Next Club meeting: Thursday 15th September

Show Report: Cholsey Model Mania 2011

As now seems customary NSMC headed off at the end of July to attend Cholsey Model Mania. Now in its 14th year, Cholsey Model Mania is an eclectic mix of all things modelling. As well as displays of scale plastic models, there are model railways, remote controlled aircraft, cars and tanks, doll’s houses and steam engines all vying for your attention. This wide selection of attractions, coupled by great weather, really pulled in the visiting public, however it did feel that the number of exhibitors and traders present were slightly lower than last year.

Revell vs. World of Tanks

Those of you playing the free MMO World of Tanks may be interested to know that Revell have teamed up with Wargaming.net to offer special model releases which include virtual tanks which can be used in WoT. It is not clear what scale the models will be in, but if priced well it will be a great way to get ahead in the game.

Red Arrows’ Hawk T1 aircraft cleared to fly

Following last week’s Red Arrow’s crash in which Flt Lt Jon Egging tragically died, the Royal Air Force have now cleared the Hawk T1 planes to resume flying. It is not yet known when the Red Arrows will restart their displays.

Congratulations to Club Member Ian Sheppard for his second place in the Armour Class at the IPMS Avon Model Show yesterday. Ian’s refuelling Tiger was up against some great models and was a worthy winner. We’ll have photos and a full show report up within a few days.
