Just a quick reminder that the next Club meeting will be held on Thursday June 17th at the Royal British Legion Newbury from 7pm. This month we will also be holding a quiz, with prizes for the winning team! Full details of the quiz can be seen here.

As usual, please bring any models you may have that are either finished or in progress. These always provide a great talking point once the formal Club activities are complete.

Club member Ian Shumsky has updated his Gallery page with a number of photos of his completed build of a Revell 1/35 scale Luchs A2 Recon vehicle. The Spähpanzer Luchs (German: Lynx) is a German 8×8 amphibious reconnaissance armoured fighting vehicle (Spähpanzer) in service since 1975 by the German Army, who used a total of 408 in their armoured reconnaissance battalions. AMP Miniatures release 120mm British Paratrooper, 1944

AMP Miniatures have announced the release of a new 120mm figure, a British Paratrooper in Jump Order, 1944 (product AMP-6). The figure represents a Corporal of the Parachute regiment wearing full jump order prior to jumping during operation Overlord in Normandy 1944.

Hasegawa announce 3 new 1/32 and 1/48 scale aircraft

Japanese kit manufacturer Hasegawa have announced three new 1/32 and 1/48 scale aircraft for June. First up is a 1/32 scale P-47 Thunderbolt, which mainly features new nose art declares. Next, we are treated to the Messerschmitt Bf106F-4 Trop. This is a newly tooled model (for the wings) and includes a seated pilot figure with a choice of three heads. The initial release of this kit will also include a resin-cast figure of German Luftwaffe fighter ace Hans-Joachim Marseille. Finally we have the 1/48 scale Focke-Wulf Fw190A-5Y “Losigkeit”, based on Hasegawa’s Focke-Wulf Fw190A-5 model released a few years back.

Completed Airfix 1/24 scale Mosquito

I know many of you have been thinking about buying and building Airfix’s 1/24 scale Mosquito, but have been put off by the fact that it is an Airfix kit! For those wanting to see what can be done with the model, Mark Simmons has been documenting his build of one over on the Military Modelling website. He has now finally finished the kit — have a look at the pictures of the impressive finished model, or check out the build steps in Mark’s Blog, both on the Military Modelling site.

Bravo 6 have announced three more 1/35 scale figures in their incredibly detailed and accurate Vietnam range. The three figures are U.S.M.C. (4) “Blooper” Tet’68 (B6-35030), U.S.M.C. (5) “Sharpshooter” Tet’68 (B6-35031) and U.S. Military Cameraman Nam’68 (B6-35032). All are cast in high grade resin.

Academy announce 1/32 scale F-16I Sufa

Korean model maker Academy have released a 1/32 scale F-16I Sufa, the Israeli two-seater version of the famous F-16. This partly retooled kit comes complete with two figures for the detailed two-seat cockpit, photo etched parts and decals by Cartograf. The weapon payload options include Python-4, GBU-31 and AGM-130.

While the articles plug Andrea Miniatures’ own range of products, the techniques discussed will be relevant to most modellers. Great Wall Hobby announce 1/35 scale 12.8cm K44 L/55 AT Gun

Great Wall Hobby (the plastic model kit arm of Lionroar, the after market specialist), have announced a 1/35 scale 12.8cm K44 L/55 AT Gun, due for release in June. This impressive artillery piece was produced late in the war and did not see much active service, but its cumbersome weight of over 8 tonnes rendered it impractical for many engagements.

70 years ago today…

70 years ago today, on 27th May 1940, Operation Dynamo began. Over a 9 day period a total of 338,226 troops were evacuated from the beaches and harbour at Dunkirk. The rescue started slowly with only 7,669 personnel evacuated from the harbour on the 27th, but the rate sped up significantly as a flotilla of around 850 ships of all sizes joined in the effort.
